IRS Audits

An Internal Revenue Service (IRS) audit is an inquiry by the IRS to determine whether a taxpayer correctly filed their taxes. An audit can be face to face or by mail or by “correspondence examination.” The IRS will notify the taxpayer that he or she is being audited, instruct the taxpayer on what to do, and allow the taxpayer time to prepare for the audit.  The notice will also inform you as to why you are being audited, and what documents need to be reviewed.
